R209 manufacturer-codes?
I've got a pair of R209 Mk.II
One has an ID-plate saying "S/N 2021 ZA41981 M.P.F." The other has "S/N. M.E.L./R/2467" Does anyone know what the M.E.L. and M.P.F. mean? I'm suspecting that they identify the manufacturer of that particular radio. Who actually made them? Does the "M" perhaps mean Marconi, or maybe Murphy? |

Re: R209 manufacturer-codes?
M.E.L. will be Mullard Equipment Ltd.

Re: R209 manufacturer-codes?
Was there perhaps ever a MoD penpusher (or 'scribbly', as my ex-RN FAA brother puts it!) classification of Marconi-Plessey-Ferranti re. the GEC group companies?

Re: R209 manufacturer-codes?
Hi,
I think these both refer to Mullard. I think MPF was the code used by the Mitcham factory where I believe the R209 was manufactured. MEL was the code used by Mullard Equipment Ltd. at Redhill where your second receiver was refurbished at some later date.
