Sinclair MTV1 micro B&W TV's.
good morning all from sunny Queensland, Australia,, on my work bench I have 2 Sinclair micro B&W TV's model MTV1 both suffered from corrosion due to batteries being left in over a long period of time, the mess has cleaned up and new batteries fitted, now I find that the power IC designated number ST3 is faulty in both, I have not been able to locate this IC anywhere, nothing in reference books or on the internet, local semi-conductor suppliers have never heard of it, I suspect it is Sinclair's in house manufacture, can anyone suggest a NOS supplier or a replacement IC, many thanks John.

More information the IC's were made by Texas Instruments, and the TV's were actually manufactured by Wolsey Electronics a Welsh company for Sinclair, no takers yet, still looking for ST3 01 03 power IC's

Wolsey used to make TV aerials
and aerial amplifiers. I'm sure people in the UK remember the Wolsey "Colour King" stacked bowtie UHF aerial. |

We used to sell the Aerial amps at Rumbelows when I worked there , I remember them because all the engineers used to take them to boost poor signals when the rental customers used to complain, and I was for ever re ordering from central stock 20 at a time.

Hi John
Is this a sixteen pin IC? Radio Museum has circuits etc with hand written notes about IC types. https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/sinclair_mtv1mtv.html Some are difficult to read though. Unless your a member you can only download 3 pages a day The page with the Line Frame and power is gb_sinclair_mtv1a_sch11.pdf Cheers Mike T

That manual is here: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=54239
It doesn't help John sourcing a chip though. May be a case of cannibalising an otherwise scrap one, although they aren't common. |

Just be sure it is the chip in both cases - I have one of these (working) and had to re-capacitor it about ten years ago as many of the original capacitors had dried up - no visible leakage or distortion, they just weren't doing their job any more.

I heard some of the MTV1 chips were custom made by Ferranti, Timex supplied the CRT, Polaroid the battery packs & final assembly was by Thorn EMI at Enfield.
