Default Wobbulator

Has anyone got a circuit of a wobbulator for AM IFs. Preferably valves that I could make-up from the junk box. ta.

You might be able to extract the relevant bits of the circuit from the book of words for the Radivet:

Simpler means might be available elsewhere.

There's also the Jason Kit wobb, schematic and manual in this thread:

I haven't looked for any more.

Hi Tony, there was a good design in radio Bygones some years ago. If you contact them they may have the back numbers or copies.

If that's the one from April/May 2003, Ed, it uses obsolete Toko coils which are likely to prove difficult to find.

Someone on the forum asked me about the RF Haigh one which featured in Radio Bygones, and I advised him that the coils are no longer made and unlikely to be obtainable. I suggested that there was an outside chance that Peter Thomas at Jabdog might have the coils. The forum member PM'd me to say that Peter does in fact have sets of coils, but how many, I've no idea.

For anyone who does decide to build one (or maybe already has), there is a wiring error, in that the coils for ranges three and four are wired up as ranges four and three. I only discovered this when checking the converge of the ranges and found that range three showed up as the highest band.

That design also uses a varicap diode that isn't very commonplace and Jabdog can supply that too.

There is a Raspberry Pi based one here and a kit can be got from here.
I have no connection to this but have seen one demonstrated a couple of years ago and it looked impressive.

Been toying with getting a raspberry pi for a while and the wobkit looks like just the thing to motive me to do it, it's great.

There is a range of replacement coils for Toko coils available here. Down near the bottom of the page.

Tony,

I bought one of the Jason kit WII valve wobbulators mentioned earlier in this thread at an auction quite a few years ago.

On receipt it wasn't working on one of the ranges, but that was soon fixed.

Sometime afterwards I built one of the Raymond Haigh designed units as published in the Radio Bygones magazine.

As such the Jason kit WII valve wobbulator is now really surplus to my requirements. [It hasn't been used for quite a while now so I would need to power it up and check that it is still working OK.]

Without wishing to dissuade you from home-brewing one you would be welcome to have the Jason kit WII valve wobbulator for £25, plus any delivery costs. (I have the manual for it which includes the circuit diagram and parts list.)

If you are interested at all please drop me a PM and we can discuss further.

Best regards,

Richard
