Big thanks to Sean and everyone else for making today so enjoyable and a great learning experience for me.

My special thanks go to Steve (pichacker) for his patience and all the help he gave me with my DAC90As and for also getting sound from my £10 Tonbridge VHF90

I look forward to the next workshop!

Hi All,
Thanks Sean and Steve for a really super day.

Mark the Mender & Ricardo - thanks for your grateful help and guidance with the repairs to my Ferguson 208 and Dac90a which was much appreciated.

Whats the date for Rusty Radio workshop 2?

Regards to all who went to Cottered today.

What an excellent day, thanks Sean for organising this which must have taken a lot of your time. I have to say a special thankyou to Andy (SetsAppeal) who spent ages with me trying to get a reluctant Strad radio up and working. The HMV 1119 I took along is now home and is very alive now I've shoved my loft mounted HF aerial in the back.

It was very nice to meet everyone there and I must admit, though I'm not into TVs, I rather covetted my next door neighbours KB Royal Star TV.

Yes, a most enjoyable day out. Thanks again to Sean and all who where involved. Great to put many faces to forum names. Location, facilities, refreshments and of course the company all great! And the way we chuckled when the Bush TV on the next table went BANG midway through the afternoon! And just as a bonus, the two TV's I took which were both struggling to show anything useful, now both display very acceptable pictures.

Hi All, Ive just got home - car unloading can wait till tomorrow!

Firstly, can I thank everyone that attended, in whatever capacity - you all helped to make today the day it turned out to be!

Could I ask everyone that attended to list the sets that were repaired (just a morbid interest in the number of repairs), if you want to add a few words about the repair then please do.

I seem to have the bottom cover for a TV24 in my car, so I guess the owner will come forward to collect that.

For me it was a great pleasure to meet so many like minded individuals, even more so with the whole spirit of co-operation - I would guess 80% of the sets that arrived went home working!

Obviously if anyone has comments or suggestions I would be more than happy to hear them.

A second workshop - sure no problem - let me know when you all want one!

Cheers
Sean

Thanks to Sean and Chris for organising the event and venue, I'm sure everyone had an enjoyable and profitable day.
It was great to put names to faces and spend time with kindred spirits.
In particular (but in no particular order); Steve P and Mark (the mender) glad to hear you got home safely, Paul Stenning, Steve (Pichacker), Callum (Williams), Richard, Phil, the man with the Banshee DAC90 and Dave.
Looking forward to the next event, thanks again,
Rob.
ps I must be in the 20% group, the RA17L I brought along with the microphonic BFO is now deaf as a post. I did manage to replace a broken knob though.
Thanks for all the spares Sean.
Would four workshops a year be too much?

Hi Sean,
Repairs - 2 simples radios to some but still complex to me:
- an Ivory DAC90a which needed a new volume switch, a UY41 rectifier valve, a couple of cap changes and some rewiring before it burst into life even though someone had previously had a stab at repairing it before me and
- an ivory Ferguson 208UL with a single cap change but needs a new on/off, and still needs a new on/off - volume switch as we could not find one on the day

Regards

Rob

I can list a set that wasn't! But now I'm more determined than ever ... this b***er won't get the better of us

A great day, looking forward to the next one!

A fantastic day out, Got the Philips Radio to start working though not on VHF

The Philips tape recorder needs a lot more work on it.

The Korting got some belts and then used a little, The Revox A700 provided some entertainment by replaying Alan Freemans pick of the pops.

Photo's to follow cant wait for the next one.

Check the VHF valves on this, Micheal. And change that valveholder!

I fixed a Philips 210 that had Derwent written on it. The Stella of Sean's wants the system switch doing. Your set, Sean.

Did that Strad work in the end?

Cheers,

Steve P.

A lovely day - thanks to Sean and the gang. A great pleasure to have met you all.

Watching TV's go from flickering mess to a perfect test-card will stick in my memory - much like the two or three belts I got from my Philips electrolytic capacitor. I never will get used to that!

My Reverbeo initially seemed to have had just one problem - the EZ81 (identified by Mr Stenning). After replacement with a new one (thanks again to the Gentleman concerned for going home to get me a new one!) that it seemed to make the FM work much better. After some dodgy soldering stopped play (identified and repaired by another kind Gentleman) the beast went back into its case and all seemed well.
This morning however FM works at the 100 end, but (again) disappears as the tuning moves towards the 88 end of the scale. Possibly a candidate for the next event?

The Hacker Aviemore RP78 fascinated people with its odd fault - but as there were some many valve radios to repair - it didn't get much of a look in!

I also found out that I hold some sort of record for having the MOST BODGED DAC90a of the event! Most unusually, it wasn't me who did it!!

Photos were taken - they are not for the feint hearted.

A very enjoyable day, I don't think I've ever seen so may DAC90A's in one place!

Seans one is truly a bodgetastic affair, I was especially taken with the inadequate filter caps glued to the top of the chassis....
I'm amazed the set even worked at all - and that was after we'd swapped all it's good valves fro the bad ones from your other DAC.

You might think about trying another ECC85 in the Reverbeo FM head, they're not the most reliable valve in the world.

Regards

Philip
