Looks like I could get a pretty decent Rogers Ravensbrook for about £100-£150 - one in need of attention probably quite a bit less and that could be a project. Any idea at what cost I could build a stereo valve amp for (including valves)? Nick |

Re: Wharfedale W3 speaker crossover questions
Your main cost would be in the 3 transformers needed. They would come to about £130-150 at the least.

Re: Wharfedale W3 speaker crossover questions
I think what I ought to do is get the speakers working perfectly first, testing them carefully using my B&O amp. There's time enough to think about amp and turntable after that.
Thank you all for the advice, input and ideas thus far. I'll report back soon Nick |

Almost anything will disappoint after the B&O, the 80s 5000 was one of their best. The 60s Beolab 5000 amplifier may be a good match if you like B&O, they work well with older loudspeakers. 2 x 60W mind you, so a little care may be needed. They aren't as cheap as they once were - a bit like the Rogers then! |

Re: Wharfedale W3 speaker crossover questions
Well, to be sure they are technical curiosity, but there are a lot of them still about and I loved the sound of mine when I had it. In the context of lowish power output and near-comtemporaeity with the W3s, I think it's a fair choice.

Re: Wharfedale W3 speaker crossover questions
Just saw these on eBay - so if you are going to restore them and they sell for this price you're onto a winner!

Re: Wharfedale W3 speaker crossover questions
This would be my suggestion also. The costs associated with a "compatible" valved system are very high. If you do further restoration, do pay attention to the sliders on the two level controls.
