Lissen LN8093 project
Firstly I have to declare I know very little about electronics so probably way out of my depth.
I have this Lissen LN8093 radio that I was going to repair and polish up the case, it is scratched but not badly damaged. I was then going to remove the speaker, add a touch screen and turn it into a Jukebox. It does seem a shame to ruin it and I wondered how easy it would be to test and maybe restore. I haven't got the power cable but could hard wire it if I knew the polarity of the connector. Any help appreciated. |

Re: Lissen ln8093 project
It would certainly be a shame to wreck this 1930s survivor, which doesn't seem to be in too bad a state. The electrical restoration should be straightforward enough for someone with the appropriate skills and experience, but it will be challenging for an absolute beginner. It all depends how interested you are in vintage electronics and how much time and effort you're prepared to put in. People on this forum are very supportive, but if you find the whole business a tedious chore then there isn't much point in proceeding.
It may be better to pass this on to an enthusiast, or simply refinish the cabinet and keep it as a static exhibit. |

Re: Lissen ln8093 project
Hello, please don't power the set on. Without appropriate checks, and applying power in a controlled manner you will probably destroy some difficult to replace parts. These radios are whats called a TRF set and was released in 1934. It looks complete and restorable. There is a look of help on this forum if you feel that you could do the job yourself with a bit of guidance. You will need some basic tools and the ability to solder. I am based in Sheffield if you need some practical help.

Re: Lissen ln8093 project
A good scratch remover will sort the cabinet easily.

Re: Lissen ln8093 project
I think you are right,I'll sell it to someone for restoration and look for a different jukebox cabinet.
Getting an electric shock off a computer power supply also helped me realise especially as though I'm off for a heart MOT on Friday, maybe it's sorted me out I'll probably do the same with the Dansette too. I am good with computers old and new but electronics are not my thing. Probably best to rescue things like this and find a home for them. Any ideas on value, where to sell etc? |

Re: Lissen ln8093 project
Hi. Can you recommend a good scratch remover?
I would like to polish this and some other things up and see if I can start restoring, it's the electrics that scare me. Also a good place to start learning how to test and repair simple electronics. I see so many boards that look like just simple blown capacitors but have never attempted repair. Thanks |

Re: Lissen ln8093 project
You could offer it for sale on here, or the well known auction site where one sold for £20 in January this year. I don't know about the Dansette without more information and a picture or two

Re: Lissen ln8093 project
Thanks, I'm not a big fan of the well known auction site and £20 would be fine.
I'll post it on here where someone is more likely to restore it than "upcycle" it . I do come across vintage radios in my work so I'll probably have more in the future. |

Re: Lissen ln8093 project
Hi Phil, you will probably find a local guy who can do the electrics for you while you do the cabinet.
Once fixed it should look good and work quite well. Ed |
