Default Black Hill FM transmitter works? - Central Scotland

Hi all,

I live in Edinburgh and get my VHF signal from Black Hill near Glasgow. About a fortnight ago I noticed none of my VHF radios (valve, transistor and even a 'modern' one from the '70s) were working as well as usual on the BBC stations, though Classic FM seemed fine.

I checked on the BBC transmitter status page: (http://www.bbc.co.uk/receptionsearch) and it said there was a fault, with a slight loss of power. Since then reception has remained impaired, but the BBC status page seems to change every day or two from 'fault' to 'essential engineering', with no further info or estimate of how long it might last.

I called the BBC and the guy was no help - all he could do was read what was on the website.

It's not exactly a big problem, but does anyone have any insight into what might be going on? (I gather there are people here with practical experience of working on these transmitters). Apart from anything else - I'm curious!

Thanks,

Joe
