Default Astral telephone

I have an Astral telephone, it will ring but has no dialling tone so won't connect. Can anyone help?

If you lift the handset when it's ringing, does it stop ringing? And can you hear a "burr, burr" in the receiver?

Also, when you lift the handset (when it's not ringing), do you get any sidetone (i.e. making sound, or blowing, into the transmitter being audible in the receiver)?

Answers to these questions may help to narrow down the search for the problem.

Are this phone wired for English jacks. Among a few other countries UK has separated ringing and voice in a master jack. Most others use only 2 wires.

When I pick up it stops ringing it has no sound.

If you've checked the obvious things like dry joints, cradle switch, mic & earpiece and cabling, a common fault with the astrals is the speech circuit IC which is unfortunately discontinued.
The astrals were a high-end repro phone and I'm rather fond of them.
