BVWS Golborne - Northern meeting 3rd November
Hello everyone,
Only two weeks to go ! There will be the usual array of stalls, plus the BVWS stall and associated tables of "previously owned desirable collectables" that we usually bring. A good chance to stock up on all of the Capacitors you will need for those winter projects. The full selection of both Polyprop. and Electrolytics will be available at very reasonable prices. I know that a good number of stalls are already booked up, so if you have not booked yours yet, then best get cracking! Bookings should be made to Mark Ryding on 07861-234364 There will also be an array of working 405 Line tv's showing period material. Plenty of hot food and drinks available. See you all there, Mike...

I hope to be there if I can sort out a replacement for dead (or at least extremely poorly) car in time.

Re: BVWS Golborne - Northern meeting 3rd November
Was hoping to get back in time for Golborne as late as last Friday but things have not gone to plan unfortunately . I'm sure you'll be very much in the right QTH without too much QRM, as proper Radio Amateurs say, Steve [hope I got that right].

Re: BVWS Golborne - Northern meeting 3rd November
Hi Guys.
I and a good friend are trying to go to Golborne next Sunday, and we have a couple of questions.Tried to ring Mark but he is not available at minute. (1) do we need to be a member to get in. (2) how much on the door. (3) what is the opening times. (4) do we need to bring anything. (5) do we need some sort of an I badge. Thanks hope to see you there.Gezza123 |

Would be good to meet all the folks there we only see at such meetings, but don't know who they are!

Re: BVWS Golborne - Northern meeting 3rd November
As Dave says badges aren't a requirement. However they have been worn in the past but only by the brave few of us in the end [inc Mike P] after many sincere promises had been made. It actually does make a great deal of sense as it's not uncommon for individuals to miss each other. There can be immediate benefits when you realise who the person next to you actually is but it's not compulsory [so far].
As for entry, these questions always seem to come up and my understanding was that anyone turning up will get into Golborne [signed in by someone] particularly as it is not an auction event! Those in the south invariably are, which is why, I understand, the more stringent rules began to be applied when external Dealers showed up. Plus it's friendlier in the North of course! As a long term BVWS member myself, I can't see that it makes sense to ask people to join up to gain entry-this won't help with the attendance figures will it? As with badge wearing prospective punters need to be encouraged. Sadly the late, great Dilys was a fantastic asset in this sort of area. I recognise my own hypocrisy in even commenting as I've already said I can't make this one. In my defence, it's even more frustrating now I know Gerry is going to be there. Re: BVWS Golborne - Northern meeting 3rd November
Hi Guys
Thanks for your replies and information. We will be there all being well, but I will not be able to become a member due to foreseen circumstances. So me and my friend will be coming along and hope someone can sign us in. Gezza123. Dave W. you have a PM. Last edited by AC/HL; 28th Oct 2013 at 12:04 am. Reason: Typos |

For all those who attended my scope demo at last Novembers meeting, I'll be doing a follow up demo on the basics of alignment this coming Sunday.
All are welcome. Keith |

Re: BVWS Golborne - Northern meeting 3rd November
I'd love to come to Golborne this weekend and I'd like to join the BVWS but have been holding off until 1st. January as membership obviously runs Jan-Dec & joining now would not be very economic. On that basis can I assume I will get in on Sunday if I pay for 2014 membership?

Re: BVWS Golborne - Northern meeting 3rd November
The definitive answer to that question would have to come from the BVWS committee, but that sounds entirely reasonable to me.

Re: BVWS Golborne - Northern meeting 3rd November
Hi All,
We are very happy to see as many people as possible at Golborne. If you are not a BVWS member, then we will sign you in at the door as a guest for the day. You can join (if you want to) at the BVWS table, and we will be taking memberships for 2014, so no problem there. I see no reason to turn interested people away. The "membership/guest of" just covers us for the Public Liability Insurance. This is something that EVERY organisation should have for all events and we get a very good deal by way of making it Members/guests events. If the event was to be advertised as "Public" the insurances would rocket in price. Please come and enjoy the event, Mike...

I'll wear a name badge, but you might not spot me behind my table full of vintage technology!

Re: BVWS Golborne - Northern meeting 3rd November
Thank-you to all involved in the organisation and running of the Golborne swapmeet. I was able to pop in only briefly, but it seemed busier than last year's.
Thank-you to Mike for bringing along the copy of "Obsession" for me. I was told as I was leaving that Gerry had been in attendance. Had I thought, I'd have asked him to sign the book. Miffed that I missed the opportunity. [Mike - I also learnt afterwards that the friend I had with me had been unaware of the entrance charge, so you're £3 short. How best to get this to you/GVR?] |

Thanks to all who organised the meeting. I particularly enjoyed Keith's talk and look forward to downloading the handout for reference!
