Question SC42453P2 I.C. Unobtainable??

THis is an 18pin DIL encoder/decoder IC, used in a STANLEY garage door controller(parts are no longer obtainable from them)made in the 1980s.
Does anyone know (a) of an exact drop-in replacement device, or (b) where I might obtain one? Neither RS, CHS,or Criclkewood list this component.

Can you even find the datasheet for it?

I suspect it's one of those ICs where you can find obsolete chip specialists who claim to have it, but they have a minimum order requirement of £200.

Pete.

I have since roughly drawn out the circuit, which basically involves a number of pins being switched to +ve via the DIP switch, and others left floating. This sets the code. A similar device was used in 'selcall' units used with CB transceivers, so I knew what to expect.
The remote control in question had been(accidentally) put in a washing machine, and, once I had cleaned the board, resoldered a number of suspect joints, also replaced a wire link, it seems to work alright. To answer your first question, Pete, no I cannot find any data for this device, which is about 25 years old.

As an alternative if the remote control fails again you could replace the remote control transmitter and the receiver in the door controller.

When we moved to our present house there was only one remote control for the garage door. I contacted the installer who sold me a new control for over £40 but I wasn't overly impressed with the performance. Both remotes opened/closed the door when the batteries were new but the batteries appeared to lose charge very quickly until after a few weeks you would be lucky to get the door to open if you stood right next to the garage.

As the receiver was a separate unit I traced out the connections and bought a new 433MHz receiver module and two remotes from CPC for about the same price as a remote for the original system. I built a new receiver interface, fitted it in place of the old receiver and it's been working reliably ever since (nearly 11 years). it also has the advantage that the remotes are code hopping types, never sending out the same data twice to prevent the codes being captured and used to open the garage without the correct remote.
