BVWS Special Auction 28th September 2008
ADVANCE NOTIFICATION:
There will be a "Special" BVWS auction held on 28th September 2008 at the Memorial Hall Wootton Bassett, near Swindon. This auction will contain hundreds of items from several collections. The items are "Premium" quality items of early and very early wireless equipment. The sorts of items have not been seen in auction for many years. Items ranging from pre WW1 wireless telegraphy through the very early days of wireless and on into the 1930's etc. The sale will be divided into several sections, and will certainly take a full day. The BVWS website will be updated with pictures of many of the items in the sale around the end of July so keep a look out. There will also be some pictures within the Auction advert in the Summer BVWS Bulletin. It will take me a great deal of time to catalogue the items fully, so please no specific enquiries yet, as I still have not seen all of what has been collected. I will update this thread as appropriate. Make sure you keep this date free in your diary, as you will not want to miss it. Mike...

Re: BVWS Special Auction 28th September 2008
Hi All,
Just a quick update... I have just completed the first 235 pictures of the lots for September 28th. I still have a good deal more to photograph but it is taking a huge amount of time to do it. I hope to have everything finished and ready for Paul to put up on the BVWS website sometime early next week. Mike...

Re: BVWS Special Auction 28th September 2008
Mike has sent me the photos of around 250 lots. Hopefully I will get them on the BVWS website tomorrow evening. There looks to be a lot of really nice items in this auction.

Re: BVWS Special Auction 28th September 2008
Photos of 249 of the 250 lots are now available on the BVWS website here.
The photo of lot 191 disappeared en-route from Mike to me. I've asked him to resend it so I'll add it once I receive it. EDIT: Lot 191 now added Last edited by Paul Stenning; 14th Aug 2008 at 4:11 pm. Reason: Lot 191 now added |

Are there any more lots to be added or is 250 the final total to be auctioned that day? Thanks.

Re: BVWS Special Auction 28th September 2008
Hi John,
There are some more late lots to be added. Some I am still waiting for. When these arrive and are photographed I will publish the downloadable catalogue on the BVWS website. Best ReGarDs, Mike...

Re: BVWS Special Auction 28th September 2008
I have added the auction catalogue to the webpage and also attach a copy here.
There are 250 lots in the catalogue so I guess that's it, unless anything gets added at the last minute. |

Re: BVWS Special Auction 28th September 2008
Following the death of my Father I have a few items of test equipment that seem too good for the tip. Would anyone be interested at the Wooton Basset auction as my Sister lives down the road and has them at her house. I know there was an Advance Signal Generator;70's Labgear Signal Generator and what is believed to be a 1940's oscilloscope (oil filled transformer removed when Dad was going to repair it but didn't get round to it). We also have a lot of valves but that may have to wait for another day.
Thanks for the advice Stuart |

Hi Stuart,
It's getting very close to the day of the auction now, so you may be best getting in touch with Mike Barker (see post #1) direct. Alternatively you can wait for Mike or Paul Stenning to respond in this thread but I'd be inclined to do the former given that the clock's ticking away. |

Contact Mike Barker, details are here http://www.bvws.org.uk/auctions/index.htm
If the items can't go in this auction, the BVWS can keep them in their storage at Devizes for a future auction. |

So do you have to be a BVWS member to go, or do you just pay your 3 quid?

It's members only (only members can get a bidders card and bid). You could join on the day though.

Re: BVWS Special Auction 28th September 2008
Well - what an interesting day!
The older vintage gear is not my normal fare, but I was really impressed by the quality of items on offer. Some of the final bid prices made people gasp: £2,600 for a Marconi WT Ltd Morse key £2,300 for a BBC AXB microphone, stand and storage box £2,400 for a Sterling 2 valve receiver in a chinese lacquer case £2,200 for a BTH type VR2 form A 2 valve receiver - there were some real bidding wars! The cheapest seemed to be the Ekco U199A for £8 - which Howard got - everything else seemed (to me) to be selling for quite high prices - although on talking to some of the high bidders afterwards, they seemed to be very pleased with the prices they had paid I got away with a Beethoven bakelite radio and a Portadyne for reasonable prices. This must have been the most successful BVWS auction ever - Mike and all the other organisers / workers must be very satisfied - so thankyou Mike, Paul and everybody else for the hard work you have put into making this auction successful Cheers Andy PS - and I picked up some radios from Paul - thanks! |

I also won the 1935 US built Pilot X-65-B set above, I've only ever wanted one art-deco radio and that's the one. It might take a while to get this one working well again but in the meantime it certainly is a lovely thing to behold. I also collected two good sets from Paul Stenning and both of those will be restored too. Howard https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...1&d=1222678787 |
