Forum move to new server - Thursday from 10am
Due to the changes detailed here https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=116824 we are moving this forum to new hosting on Thursday 11th June.
It is one of fifteen websites scheduled to be moved at the same time, starting at 10am. Because it's one of a batch we don't know exactly when this website will be moved. However the forum will be closed from around 9:55am until we have confirmation that it has been moved. So please expect it to be unavailable for a few hours during the day, but back for the evening. Apologies for the inconvenience. |

Now finished and reopened. Apologies for the inconvenience and for closing it 10 minutes earlier than announced (the hosting support team were keen to get started).
If you notice any problems please post here and we will take a look. |

Thanks Paul, perhaps it is the placebo effect but the site is more responsive and loads quicker.

Re: Forum move to new server - Thursday from 10am
That is possible. Although moving form a dedicated server to a cloud hosting system may seem a backward step, in practice the platform behind the new cloud system is a lot more powerful than the old dedicated server, making this a significant upgrade.

Re: Forum move to new server - Thursday from 10am
Although we obviously have to share it with loads of other websites and clients, the server details in the admin system show it having 32 CPU cores (at 2.6GHz) and 64GB RAM. So there is plenty of power there! The old dedicated server was quad core CPU (at 2.4GHz) and 8GB RAM.

It definitely seems more responsive since the server change

Re: Forum move to new server - Thursday from 10am
It does seem faster, which is odd as I would expect the subjective responsiveness to be largely dependent on the client connection and hardware.

Re: Forum move to new server - Thursday from 10am
My three sites have long been hosted under the auspices of Paul. Recently there seems to have been a substantial reduction of spam in my mailbox... another beneficial effect of the change?
Steve
