Sure, you could build something with active components. A single FET would do it.

I was in Bardwells a few weeks back picked up a few transformers that were lying on the floor, I used to frequent all the Radio shops in Sheffield back in the 70's 80's I think Barwells is the only one left their old shop was like a sweet shop so much to rummage through.

I happened across Bardwells years ago, searching for a sandwich shop whilst working nearby. Had to manage without lunch that day!
