This thread seems to be becoming specific to my C&S set so maybe it should be merged with my original enquiry about it. https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=71729

Anyway, I think that the resistor in question is R22 on here http://www.portabletubes.co.uk/boats/amunit2.JPG which measures 119K as opposed to 100k. The concern was that this might have gone low rather than high. Might replacing it actually make things worse? The capacitors are a little hard to get at so I haven't disturbed them yet.

Hf distortion on FM is most commonly associated with multipath. Have you tried moving the antenna?

Yes Dave of course you are correct it was a typo on my part. Having spent some considerable time in the broadcast industry I do know the difference between pre and de emphasis and where they are employed. I must be more careful in future.
