I've been commissioned to do that! Seems daft - as the silk-screen legend is applied by the PCB manufacturer so by the time the bare board arrives at Goods Inwards it already has the number for the populated board on it, even though it is still unpopulated!
Every manufacturer has their own way of doing that, very interesting.

Philips mostly (very few exceptions, notably Philips France I think) only printed the numbers of the bare PCB and often also of the sketches for the individual layers on the PCB. The assembly number was on a label or omitted altogether.

Sharp printed both numbers on the silkscreen, sometimes with a space to have the last digits (default value ZZ) of the assembly number filled in by stamp or by hand.

I'm listening to Just a Minute on R4 at the moment.

One of the subjects given was 'Train Stations'.

It sounded wrong - it should have been 'Railway Stations'!

I'll find that on Listen Again, thanks!

Would be interesting if next week the subject is 'PCB Traces!'

I thought a good game for its sister programme "I'm Sorry, I haven't a Clue" would be to navigate yourself between Arqiva transmitter sites, the first team to arrive at Bristol Ilchester Crescent would be declared the winner.

Great idea for a game - I'll start you off with Darvel, East Ayrshire ... !
