The arm should, as vidjoman should have an earth wire run along with the signals to the amplifier. Amplifiers usually have an earth terminal close to the record playing inputs for just this purpose.
There usually isn't an earth wire from the arm to the rest of the turntable. So the turntable does its own thing earthing-wise (most are double-insulated and have no earth wire - like that Swiss 2-pin plug) while the arm and cartridge behaves as an outpost of the amplifier. David
