HMV wind up gramophone
I have the above which has been stored for many years. It has two doors which open and legs about 6 - 8 inches high, the plywood of the doors has started to separate. I think that it was made in the mid-nineteen twenties but cannot find a model number anywhere.
Are they collectable? One way or another it must go in the next few weeks. Best wishes, Geoffrey. |

HMV made a lot of wind ups - photos would help with assessment - also, does it work?

Re: HMV wind up gramophone
I've been collecting HMV gramophones for about fifty years, and can't think of one that had legs that short! The model number is often on a little celluloid label under the circular needle tins. If you could post a picture, it can be identified immediately.

Re: HMV wind up gramophone
It's a model 157, available from 1927 - 1933. Initial price £22.00 (in oak) eventually reduced to £18.00.
I'm still not sure about the height of the legs, but the overall height should be 36.25 inches. If you lift out the back one of the two round needle pots, there should be a celluloid disc in the bottom with the model number on it. Barry |
