Request for help: instruments from Smiths Industries
I recently bought a multimeter from an eBay listing: it is branded Venture on the front, but on the back (below the instructions for use) is the following:
“Made in Austria for Smiths Industries Ltd Industrial Instrument Division Waterloo Road, Cricklewood London NW2 7UR” In the bottom right corner sits a lonely “4n” I bought the meter based entirely on its front view (no photo of the back), as it looked identical to a meter from the Goerz/Unigor/Metrawatt family, and Goerz meters were made in Vienna. I already own a model 3p which is a very precise instrument. The 4n model also has a taut-band movement with an astonishing basic sensitivity (before padding) of 7.5uA fsd. There is an anti-tamper paper in place which look original, and despite being over 40 years old, it still measures DC volts to better than 1%. Now, does anyone know of any other products originating from Smiths which bear the Venture brand? Or was this a one-off experiment which they didn’t repeat? Many thanks John |
