Thanks Chris, that's very helpful indeed. I've managed to get the beacon out, and found it's a Soderberg Model S1226B-A, NSN 6220-00-803-4610. Having looked this up, the lamps are 28v DC.

Yes, please do copy me the catalogue. Many thanks.

Regards,
Richard

With help from Chris, the specification of the anti-collision beacon was ultimately tracked down - 28v. A pair of 12v automotive lamps were inserted in the beacon, just to see what happened. With many thanks to Bookman, who kindly supplied a 240v to 22v transformer, the beacon is now illuminated and rotating (albeit a little slowly, for obvious reasons). I just need to insert new UK standard illumination in the body of the device, and it's all done.

I will update again when it's all finished. In the meantime I just wanted to thank everyone for all the assistance provided. The breadth and depth of knowledge of forum members, and the willingness to share that knowledge, is second to none. Thank-you.

Regards,
Richard

American type plugs and sockets are available, they are also used in the Philippines on 240v. And to some extent in Thailand. China ones are slightly different on the pins.
If all else fails I can buy out there next month but I don't get back till late March 2018.

Put a couple of photos here directly too just in case (well because) the may disappear from the remote link.

I is a lovely light, I can see why you wanted it to work again.

BTW NSN means NATO Stock Number.

Thanks for that - wilco. It really is a nice item.

Yes, NSN does stand for NATO Stock Number, but in the US this is known as the
National Stock Number. Isolationism rules!

Richard

It might be a moot point, but is the transformer original? Does it look like it was factory fitted or fitted afterwards?

It may have been dual voltage for the top lamp.
Does it look like there were two lamps inside the body with different electrics for each?

The transformer in the body definitely factory-fitted.

There were two lamps in the body, with common wiring, 115v from the mains; plus two lamps in the beacon, 28v from the transformer.

Richard
