Garrard turnover GC8 question
I have a GC8M and a GC8 cartridge. If I load them lightly around a megohm they have very different characteristics. I am not sure if this is due to rochelle deliquescence or the intended response. I understand the straight GC8 has a more-or-less RIAA curve response and can feed an amplifier without a correcting network?

What are you feeding Them into?

Re: Garrard turnover GC8 question
I feed them into a series resistance of 1 meg ohms and then to a grid of a high impedance stage. I have Decca standard recording test tone discs and can monitor the RMS output.

Re: Garrard turnover GC8 question
If they are going into a high impedance grid with normally a 1meg grid resistor, you don't need the series resistor.
I think the M version may have had a better high frequency response with a slightly lower output. |

Re: Garrard turnover GC8 question
I've had a dig around my extensive library but it's not extensive enough to help me answer my question. These pictures might help someone else though...

Re: Garrard turnover GC8 question
Both are designed to feed into a high impedence (c.1meg) input. On crystal cartridges the wider the frequency response, the lower the output e.g. Collaro Studio P comparerd to a Collaro Studio O or T.
