Default Panasonic Portable VHS recorder - PV-5000K conversion into Mould Cleaner?

I got this along with a ITT V2000 recorder and Sanyo VTC 9300 Betamax a few months back, both of which had problems, so I'm assuming this will as well. I've not had a chance to test it, as it's at a friend's house.

It comes in 2 parts, a VCR unit, and something else to attach to it that's exactly the same size. I can't recall what it was, some kind of TV tuner unit I expect. They both actually look quite nice as a set. But fundamentally, whether they work or not, they aren't really much use overall, so I was hoping to convert it into a mould cleaning machine.

Does anybody know anything about this machine, and if it's suitable to do this with it? I heard that a mould cleaner needed a DV Capstan Motor for some reason. beyond that' I'm a bit lost on all of this.
