Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
I have a puzzling behaviour which seems only to have manifested itself since my palaver with Google Chrome being disabled after a Microsoft Update, followed by uninstallation and subsequent installation of Google Chrome. When I am reading a post which has pictures attached and so I start to view those pictures, things work correctly when I use the "next" button, but only on the first time of viewing the pictures. On subsequent occasions, clicking "next" just gets me back to the thread and not necessarily the same post, but maybe an earlier one. What in the name of Bill Gates could cause that?

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
I just tried and can replicate that behaviour. Using W10 and Edge browser which is Chromium based.

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
And I thought it was just me, began to happen since upgrading only just recently to W10. With some posts it always takes me to the thread page when clicking first or next but back a few posts. If you click view single post then there is no issue.
John. Edit. Just tried IE11 and no issues. Last edited by jayceebee; 17th Nov 2020 at 9:52 pm. Reason: IE11 test. |

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
Yes, it started happening to me, probably a month or so back. Quite annoying, but when you think about it (logically), when you've looked at a picture once, why would you then want to go and look at it for a second time? Yes, I know, most of us DO want to!

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
I suspect with the dated vBulletin system here we will gradually start to see more of these little niggles as browsers etc are updated. Version 3.x of vBulletin is no longer developed so the issues are unlikely to be sorted.
As a general suggestion, disabling things like ad-blockers and anything that restricts JavaScript activity, just for this website, could help. Eventually I will need to look to moving to alternative forum software, preferably something that looks and operates as similarly as possible to the current software, and definitely one with a reliable data conversion system so nothing is lost. It is unlikely to be a newer version of vBulletin because it's expensive (and horrible), and there are several good open source alternatives available. We are not at that point yet but I suspect it will be in the next couple of years. |

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
I have this problem too but I'm not sure that it's limited to this forum. My suspicion is that it's a Chrome problem. I don't think it happens on IE 11.

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
The problem is certainly present with MS Edge for me at least.

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
The latest versions of MS Edge are based on Chromium and I think Chromium is the source of this issue as indicated in some previous posts. Like Paul I've had no such issues using Firefox.

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
I have just chosen a thread with image attachments, https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=173210, which was the first in Success Stories.
Viewing the image attachments in the first post works fine for me in Firefox (logged in) and in Chrome, Edge and Internet Explorer (not logged in) on Windows 10 20H2. Can someone add links to a couple of threads that exhibit the issue please? |

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
This thread, selected at random, does it if you first cycle through the images and then close the image window. When you reopen it the first image is displayed, but clicking on next closes the image window.

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
That thread works fine in Chrome for me. In Edge the background does flash white as the next image loads the first time around but still works OK, including closing the image viewer and returning to it, reloading the page and trying again etc.
These browsers don't have any extensions etc installed, they are just the browser alone. |

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
MS Edge has a switchable option under default browser to reload pages using Internet Explorer mode.
Click ... then settings, then default browser to switch it on. To reload a page in IE mode click ... then more tools, then reload in Internet Explorer mode. If I reload the page in IE mode it works fine.

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
I am also getting this issue with Chrome on Android 5.1.
One workaround is to disable JavaScript for UKVRRR, as the forum is perfectly usable without it. The browser will open each image in a new tab rather than creating a popup window. The forum JavaScript code controlling image display has always been a bit buggy. |

Re: Puzzling behaviour on UKVRRR forum
Firefox OK here, Switching to Edge immediately shows the problem, I don't have Chrome.
