Default What happened to www.philipstv.org.uk?

A member of this forum, 'Philips Fan' did an incredible job of collecting info about Philips televion sets which he/she hosted on the web page 'www.philipstv.org.uk' There was a lot of info, diagrams and photos there.

Now it seems to be gone and 'Philips Fan' has not been logged in since 2015.

Anybody know why?

He has enabled contact via email, assuming it's still current.

As good as it is to have something like archive.org, it doesn't archive pictures and not every page may be archived. I forum-messaged Robert a week or so ago, offering decent archival of his site but no reply yet. I hope nothing bad happened to him. Anyone know his e-mail address?

Edit: archive.org does have his address in the archived contact form. I'll be mailing tonight as I've got to go offline now.

Any idea when the site was last online? The WHOIS records show that the current owner registered the domain on the 5th May 2018, so I suspect that it's been offline for a while - my guess would be that the domain wasn't renewed by 'Philips Fan', so it expired sometime early 2018, then it was bought by its current owner.

Yes, if it had been renewed as normal the registration date would be the date it was originally registered.

It does look like the registration has lapsed and someone else has registered it. Most likely to fill with spam links to cash in on a good Google rating previously, and they have now let it go again when that didn't work. I wouldn't be surprised if it is not renewed in May.

This is the trouble with the supposed digital revolution. Personally, despite being in my 20s, I prefer the physical to the digital. It is so easy for something to disappear from view because of money, software conflicts or administrative errors. My grandfather's file of Wireless World and loudspeaker circuits just needs some light to read them by.

No wonder there was that story about the Kremlin a few years back buying a load of typewriters to confound cyber-thieves!

I've sent an email to Robert's last known account, and will update if I receive a reply.
If anyone else gets in contact, please let me know and I'll update the thread,

Robert (Philips Fan) has been in touch. A career change meant that he didn't have time to devote to the website, but he still has the data and intends to relaunch at some point in time. This is good news, I'm sure the return will be very welcome.
