Re: Aldi tools today.
Indeed David, this is the bandsaw that I bought for £80 and have used for various projects very successfully. I just take my time with it, not trying to force wood through quickly and it cuts very nicely. I bought a suitable steel table to mount mine on.

Re: Aldi tools today.
That is a very fancy drill with lots of flashy lights.
Mine is the last of the cast iron ones with the belt speed change system of old but with nine speeds as opposed to the three they used to have in the 1970s. The photos are from when I was getting it out of the box. |

I have had an promotional email from Toolstation this morning and the folding bench appears identical to the one I got from from Aldi earlier this year though Ts’s ‘offer’ is considerably more expensive. There is clearly a bit of rebranding going on for a special purchase agreement with the manufacturer. Nothing new in that ploy of course. I bought some extendable shears and loppers from Lidl earlier in the spring. Exactly the same items turned up in Aldi a couple of weeks later except that the little locking tabs that keep them closed when you are carrying them and storing them were red instead of yellow. These have been in weekly use on a community project – much heavier use than in the garden – and so far so good. |

Re: Aldi tools today.
Biggest thing I bought at Aldi was a cement mixer: there was one assembled on display in front of a line of cardboard boxes. Called my mate and we managed to get it in his van, never mind a trolley! Don't think they sold any more due to trolley considerations
Assembled it emerged as about five times the size of the box. Probably 15 years ago, it has seen heavy use by me, neighbours, and a builder friend who dismantled it to take it away but is resisting bringing it back. I grease and oil it regularly, and had to replace the no-voltage switch when it rusted solid due to being left permanently outside
