Re: Questions about my Becker Europa II car radio
Power needn't come from the radio, and I would prefer it didn't. I would rather you drew this power straight from the battery or from the cigar lighter at the very least.
Any problems with the USB Port is then not transferred to the radio. Cheers, Steve P.

Re: Questions about my Becker Europa II car radio
Ok, then I think I'm not going to use pins 2 and 7 for safety for the radio.
If I want to use them, I can always use these to power a little relay to switch the USB charger on or off that is on the other circuit away from the radio. But I'm not going to do this :p Just a tought out loud. Thank you all very much! I was almost looking for these answers a month! |

Re: Questions about my Becker Europa II car radio
Hi: I have attempted to use the diagram for the 7 pin din plug wiring and have found it to be inaccurate, at least for the Europa Stereo.
I am attaching a diagram that worked for me. No resistor is required and the pin-outs are not correct for the Europa II Stereo. I corrected them from the schematic I have for the radio. It plugs into the white plug on the picture of the back of the radio. Hope this helps some one else. BTW, it is installed in my 74 Mercedes 280C and is working fine. Doug Q |

Re: Questions about my Becker Europa II car radio
A couple of points(drawn from my 23 years of repairing car radios)1)Usually on the 7 & 8 pin Stereo DIN plugs/sockets pin 2 was signal ground, & pin 6 DC Ground(Chassis)They are usually, but not always, at the same potential.
2)The switched + 12v connection at pin 7 was porovided by the setmakers to power the associated car tape player/recorder, so, whilst I have no experience of IPods or MP3 players, I can see no reason why it shouldn't be used to power(via the neccesary converter or charger) these devices, which presumably consume less current than a cassette or 8 track palyer did. |
