In the past, when televisions were made using valves, there was often a large, high-power dropper resistor fitted, usually near the top of a vertical panel. It was common to find a section of that dropper was O/C, so a high-power resistor was commonly used to bridge that O/C section, secured with 40 / 60 solder, a.k.a. HMP (high melting point) solder.

Even then, the joints used to go "pasty" sat on top of the mains dropper, they used to fix the jumper resistor by binding it with 5A fusewire to try an hold them in place and using plumbers solder, still a marginal connection at best. Silver solder would have been better (700c melting point)

Yes those droppers always gave us problems and we tried various techniques usually fuse wire and nuts and bolts, if practical.
