Evershed and Vignoles Megger Information Wanted

This came from an antiques fleamarket last Sunday. It is the indicator part of a Megger, presumably there would have been a separate generator. The serial number is 656365, looking on the RichardsRadio website this would indicate a date of the mid 40's, but there is no information there or elsewhere I can find on Meggers with separate generators during this period. The input terminals are labelled 1000 volts, output terminals on the other end are Line, Earth and Guard, the meter indicates up to 1000 Mohms. Does anyone know about this?

I have got a 500V version that is in better condition.
On the input end I fitted a strong PCB onto the terminals with two small brackets with pips that go into the screw heads. Upon the PCB I built a battery inverter to run it.
It reads more accurately than is really needed with its large display.

Do you know anything about the original generators that these Meggers used. E & V must have still been making separate units at this time.

I never found out what provided the power.
Mains derived or an output from a mobile gen set of some kind would be most likely.
I did have a look inside and had a sniff of that old electronic smell.
Mine has a date inside it 21/06/43 on the movement.
