Default Odd forum hang ups.

I have noticed a small problem when sending replies to threads.
If I type a reply and send, then there is a glitch in the internet/wifi whatever and it fails to go, it will not send with repeated use of the refresh or reload tabs.
I just get the header with a blank page body that repeatedly fails, with "waiting for UK vintage" etc. in the bottom corner.
I have to do a back to the thread page, wait for it to fully load with my reply and then resend.
Is it normal or does it forget which page it is loading?

I would guess that it is due to power outages on the south coast of the UK reducing the thru put of undersea cables. The weather has been bad where they come into the UK.

I should explain that we are on a wifi mobile broadband connection through Smart in the Philippines and we get regular "The connection has been reset" messages.

Having said that, this forum is loading much more slowly than anything else I am accessing like the BBC, eBay, Golborne, Gmail or auction houses, and has done for days.

It depends where the server is located.
If they are close to areas where the cables come ashore as the weather has not affected all areas.

The server is at Centro datacentre, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. I haven't noticed any problems accessing the forum over the last few days. Power outages could certainly affect the routing, which will vary for different sites and users. Hopefully once things settle down after the current bad weather the situation will improve.

This is a site on a single server with a dedicated hosting company in the UK. It won't have the resources and redundancy that the likes of the BBC, eBay and Gmail would.

No problems from here, and the forum has always loaded better than the BBC, but the demands on them must be astronomical.

And neither would we expect you to supply that level of redundancy, for myself and hopefully others we appreciate the site and you supplying it.

Its not a malfunction as such, just that you have to backtrack if you get a reset whilst sending a reply.
There was no intention to complain, I'm very happy with what I get for free, thank you all.
Sam.

Monthly monitoring email from Pingdom, reports no downtime detected during its regular ping tests in February.

Obviously that just checks that the server responds to a request, not that it is responding is a useful way. But does suggest there was no significant server or routing downtime in February.

Also of course this is before the really bad weather.

I think that what I have described has been occurring for a long while and has nothing to do with the weather, phase of the moon or the bomb.
Its likely just the way it is, unfortunately I discovered it.
