Uher 95 Reel to Reel
Just unpacked my latest acquisition a 1955 Uher 95 that has come from Germany, a 2 track single speed, valve reel to reel. Fairly compact and for its age looks relatively good condition.
It was advertised as a vintage Uher (no model known) from research prior to purchasing I worked out that it must be a Uher 95, one of 5 models C, K, L, S or T. There should be a metal plate inside identifying its model details. It has had some modifications done to it. On the side it has a brass coloured metal plate fitted (I guess maybe to hide damage to the case wall ?) with a single toggle switch added. On the rear panel it has a smaller brass coloured plate fitted, to which a figure of 8 mains chassis connector is fitted (mains cable normally hardwired), if there is space I will probably replace it with a 3 pin mini Bulgin mains connector so as to be able to earth the chassis. Also on the rear panel is an added phono socket and 3.5mm jack socket, as well as a single DIN socket. Depending upon actual model the Uher 95 would normally have 1 to 4 DIN sockets on the rear panel. Hopefully not ominous but when I pressed the top panel 8 pushbuttons, Play and Microphone would not press down. First port of call will be to open it up for good internal inspection, am sure there will be plenty of old paper capacitors to check out. David Last edited by DMcMahon; 29th Nov 2020 at 12:06 pm. |

Re: Uher 95 Reel to Reel
Have had a quick look inside, surprisingly clean looking. Identification plate does identify it as 95 but no model number. The fact that it has an internal loudspeaker and EL 84 output pentode narrows it down to either model K,L or S.
Valve complement is EF86, ECC81, EL84, EC92 & EM71. There are 3 heads. Both drive belts (quite thick) look very stretched, so will probably require replacement. Found that the microphone push button will press down and latch if one of the others is also pushed down, not yet identified what the other button is. Also found that the Play button will sometimes press down and latch if the Stop button is also pressed slightly. Can see that the added toggle switch will switch off the internal speaker and can also see that the 3.5mm jack socket connects to the output transformer so guess that a combination of the 2 are used to run with external speaker connected. |

Have made a start with converting the figure of 8 two pin mains chassis connector to mini Bulgin. |
