Default Another one for the pile. Vega Selga 404.

Picked this up lastnight online, Its new old stock but it doesn't work. But who wants a working radio ? No fun in that

Was more of a consolation buy as the westinghouse i wanted went beyond my cash limit.

Apparently it's stone dead, Hope it's not a faulty audio transformer

Cheers

There is a very small chance I may have some service info for that! I'll have to see if I can find it, I have a folder of Vega transistor radio manuals!

Regards,
Lloyd

Cheers, I'm hoping they'll be a schematic included with the original documentation,

Generally speaking, Soviet era export radios are not easy to work on, being an odd combination of overdesign and shoddy construction. You may want to leave this until you have more experience.

Thanks for the advice. Seeing as its totally dead I'm ''hoping'' it's going to be an easy fix.

After doing a bit of detective work online it turns out the radio is actually a 405 model with a 404 box and documentation. The guy i bought it from seems to be a collector with no technical knowledge, Apparently he was sent a video of the radio working before he bought it, But it was dead when he received it, I'm beginning to think the radio he seen working in the video was the NOS 404. It was then swapped for a non working 405 which he received in the original 404 box,

Only difference seems to be the speaker grill colour. And if it was in its pouch during the demo video they'd be no way of telling it was different to the one he received.

Cheers all

If you have a completely silent radio, the first thing to check is always the earphone socket. If that seems OK after cleaning, then take some voltage readings.

Yea paul that'll be the first port of call. That fact that its totally dead narrows down the search. Well thats the theory

This set uses small orange coloured silicon transistors, I used BC182 etc to replace the
noisy one on the audio preamp. The LW band can extend up to 430kHz on these sets.
Check the speaker hasn't gone open circuit.

Further to other advice that has been provided, I would recommend looking up Shango066 on You Tube.
He has repaired quite a lot of Vega radios in the past, and filmed how he repaired them.

He's one of my favourite youtube radio repairers, Can't get enough of his vids.

He is one of my favourite You Tuber's as well.
It is great when he is suddenly repairing a radio, and says something random, like "smokers choice."
