Valve heat shield
Patiently waiting on my toast to pop up from the toast machine (needs a bit of manual help these day's) and watching the red glow from the elements gave thought to the material that is used to withstand this heat source, it reminded me of a mica form similiar to the earlier mica washers used on power transisistors to isolate the case body from the heat sink/chassis, some valve radios i think have used asbestos around dropper resistors to shield other components from the heat emanated.
My tip although never exercised is that perhaps this toaster material can be used in valve radios as a good substituition for asbestos that is harmful to us humans anyway and layered if extra thickness was required, then perhaps fixed in various heat sensitive areas ie inside the top or side of cabinets that have dropper or large valves in close proximity to components or close tolerence to the cabinet, i used to many years ago sell elements for toasters as well as the element wire for electric fires that you patiently wound around the formers and in my opinion seemed to give off a better heat than the glass former Kw for Kw perhaps the ceramic type retained heat better!. and as a bonus in the absence of a cigarettte lighter it would light your fag quicker Cheers, Vince.
