Default Panasonic SVHS NV-FS HQ recorder

Hello, I recently inherited this machine from my father who used it extensively to make recordings for rugby training videos. It has not be used for a number of years. I set it up to play through my TV. I only have regulation VHS tapes. Picture is fine but the sound won't work. When I press play the sound comes on momentarily but then dies. Please help it is such a lovely machine!

Richard

What is the model number Richard? Sound fault could be a muting circuit or bad heads. Even capacitors failing can cause similar problems.

If the tapes were recorded without hifi sound, the problem may be as simple as a dirty linear playback head.

To eliminate the possibility the TV is muting it out, try it via audio line out to a stereo amp, or headphones.
