Identify old microphone ?
Just acquired this Shure desktop microphone. I can't find any mention of the type/model number or impedance, just wondered if anyone recognised it ?
Its not in very good condition, there appears to be a cover missing at the back of the microphone 'holder', would that have been a metal or plastic cover ? See below. http://www.greensgadgets.com/images/mic_rear.jpg On the underside is a small slide switch, it looks original because it is riveted in place. When I unscrewed the cover the wires fell off the switch, wonder what that was supposed to do. It doesn't appear to be an impedance selector switch; can't find a transformer inside. Here is a picture of the rear of the microphone insert, anyone know what impedance it is supposed to work into ? I can't read the model number. See below. http://www.greensgadgets.com/images/insert.jpg Finally, a picture of the whole thing. It came with a black foam cover that fits over the microphone, would that have been original ? http://www.greensgadgets.com/images/mic_front.jpg Regards Ian |

Re: Identify old microphone ?
Hi,
That looks like the 'classic' Shure 444 to me. You'll find a user guide in .pdf format on Shure's User Guides & Spec Sheets page. This includes a wiring diagram. Cheers, Kat |

Re: Identify old microphone ?
Hi there,
Thanks for the link. Yes, so its a Shure 444 then. All my questions answered except I'd still like to know what the missing piece at the back should be ? Any one got one and could describe or post a picture ? Regards Ian |

Yes, it has a silver disk on the back, I no longer have one since I sold some of my old KW gear but you should be able to find a pic on the web.

Re: Identify old microphone ?
Yes, I can confirm that it is a 444 microphone. Here is a picture of the back of the top part where you can clearly see the silver disc. The switch underneath is used when you want to use VOX so it switches between VOX and Normal operation.

Re: Identify old microphone ?
Thanks for the explanation and picture. Does the silver disk appear to be metal or plastic ?

Re: Identify old microphone ?
The disc seems to be very thin metal with a brushed finish similar to the surround at the front of the microphone capsule enclosure.

Re: Identify old microphone ?
Thank you, I'll have to keep a look-out for something similar to glue in place !
