SONY TCD707 - Faulty Capstan Motor
Deck 'B' ( The record/Play Deck on this twin Deck machine was playing at about twice the normal speed irrespective of the setting of any controls, whilst Deck 'A' ( The Play only one) was working normally. Having checked the circuitry invloved and found no obvious faults, so decided to swap the capstan motors between the two decks (Both motors are Matsushita MMI-6R2LWK 4-terminal types, btw) Swapping them over resulted in Deck 'B' operating at the correct speed, whilst Deck 'A' now runs too fast, which points to the motor's internal regulator being faulty. The four terminals are :-
(1) -7v (2) +5v, (3) speed (4) speed, the latter two being connected to pre-set pots which control the internal electronic speed regulators. Since this motor seems to be no longer available, either from SONY, or from any of the usual suppliers, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to rectify the fault, ideally whilst keeping the High Speed dubbing facility? |
