English Language Service Data for Philips N4418 required
I have a manual for this R to R Tape Recorder-however all the instructions are in German. Does anyone have any Service Data in English for this model, please? - in particular relating to the speed control circuit. For some reason,if the 4.76cm/sec(1.875"/sec.) speed is selected, the machine can only be adjusted to run at 9.5cm/sec.(3.75"/sec.)and I haven't been able to find out why. The speed selector switch is operating correctly, so I presume there is a fault in the control module.

I have some old Philips manuals, including the 4418, which I'll never need.
If you PM your address I'll pop it in the post, for the cost of the postage. Regards, Bill |

If there's a particular part of the manual you'd like to understand, I'd be happy to have a stab at translating it if you can post a scan.

Bill, thanks-PM on it's way. CMJ-thanks for the offer-mainly I need to fully understand the
adjustment procedure, although I've traced out the speed control circuit in detail meanwhile, and now have to find out the cause of an intermittent fault in that department. I may take up your kind offer if Bill's manual doesn't sshed any further light on the subject. |

I seem to remember that I had this speed fault a few years ago. If my memory serves me correctly, it was just after I changed the capstan belt and it turned out to be something to do with the positioning of the pulley/pulse pick-up head. Sorry, but I can't remember exactly what I did, but it might point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the tip, Pete. I'll check that when I'm back in my workshop.

Peter, I've set the position of the pulse pickup head as close to 0.1mm from the rotating magnet rim as I can determine and still have the problem. In the meantime I now have a detailed English Language Manual, courtesy of Bill(AC/HL), and will persevere with the 4418
in the hope that I can track down the source of the fault |
