A vintage Ferguson radio in Tunisia
Nowadays there are very few radio/ TV repair shops left in most countries. Such shops will probably not be advertised in the local press or even have a proper shop front. The only way to find them is by wandering around the backstreets or by word of mouth. I found such a place in Sousse,Tunisia recently. My attention was drawn to an old and very dusty shop that said Sony on the outside. Inside there was a gentleman repairing a broken PA amplifier, surrounded by many old broken TVs, VCRs etc. There were a few radios too. I was surprised to see a Ferguson tabletop transistor radio. He tried to give me a demo, but apart from some static nothing came out of the speaker. However, he kindly allowed me to take a few pictures. It is a Ferguson 337 BTX and would probably look and sound really nice if restored.

Yes, it has only MW and SW covered in three bands from 11 m to 120 m. The back panel had no screws, so I was able to get a picture of the inside.

Re: A vintage Ferguson radio in Tunisia
Maybe it would with the eight D cells installed: I just put mine on the scales and it's only 5.98 kg without them. It's a very nice portable to use, not too far behind a Grundig Satellit.
I've an HMV battery transistor table model that's MW and three SW bands: not styled at all similarly to the Ferguson, but I expect when I get to take a look at it I'll see it has the same chassis. Paul Last edited by Paul_RK; 18th Dec 2018 at 11:54 pm. |
