Default NAD 3130 no sound

Hi,

I picked up a NAD 3130 a few weeks ago for free.

It’s in extremely good condition and looks like it’s never had too much of a hard life.

Only problem is there is no sound from the speaker outputs, not even a hum, completely silent.

However the headphone output still seems to be working just fine.

Opened it up and took out the fuses to check visually they are all okay and they were.

Weird thing was I powered the unit back up again once I’d put them back in and it worked for maybe a minute or two then stopped again Bad fuses maybe?

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Scott

Try cleaning the switching contacts on the headphone socket.

Some suggestions.

Make sure the loudspeaker selector switch is set properly.

Make sure the loudspeakers and their connecting cables are ok and connected properly.

Make sure the loudspeaker selector switch contacts are clean and ok.

So far as the headphone and loudspeaker outputs are concerned the only thing that separates them is the loudspeaker selector switch according to the schematic I'm looking at.

EDIT: Post crossed.

Lawrence.

Just inspected the underneath of the PCB, looks like there is a crack in the PCB right underneath where the speaker selector switch is, I’m guessing this is probably the cause.

Looks like it’s destined for the skip

Thanks for the help though.

Why? You can repair the breaks in the tracks by soldering a piece of wire across them.

Yes, if it's just a couple of broken tracks then it should be an easy repair. I'm sure someone here will give it a home if you don't want to bother with it.

Thanks for the help, didn't have any thin wire on me so I decided to resolder the cracked traces just using solder and the amp is now working great, is this a bad idea just to use solder though? I always see wire+solder being recommended.

The repair will be more durable if you use wire. A bit of 2+E electrical cable will give you the solid copper wire you need. You find offcuts in skips all the time.
