Hi,

Looking good as usual, Ben. Never seen anything like that chassis before - only the 710,11 and 12. It would have been appropriate for a circus to be on the site of the 711 factory...
Nice job on the missing baffle strips as well.

As Glen says, I'd tend to leave the LOPT alone unless the transistor's overheating. Of course the more common 20AX CRT is the A56-510X quick-heat type which is a direct replacement as long as the heater feed resistor is changed. Luckily you've no need to do that!

Nice job Ben

It has a sort of "Grundig of the same era" look about it with those rounded edges to the cabinet and so on. Nice to see some continental sets on here.

All the very best,

Tas

These were good sets, fitted with the 712 chassis. There was also a 712 PIL.

This set had been giving good service as a bedroom unit, but the other day it blew the 4A mains fuse on switch-on (and tripped the flat's circuit breaker!) For those unfamiliar with this chassis, I found this fantastic page. And here

A look inside showed that the mains fuse was blackened. Removed and checked PTC, it was Ok. The problem appears to be on the thyristor PSU sub-pcb. There is blown print from pin 4, which leads to the thyristor itself. Not good news.

Before I go futher I'd like a schematic, but all the 712 ones I've found online (in places like electrotanya, scribd etc) are atrocious images which are largely illegible. Does anyone by chance have a good pdf, or could consider scanning the PSU section in high resolution for me?
TIA,

Hi Ben,
Definitely have Trader three part service sheet for the Telefunken 712 chassis, you are welcome to a scan of relevant sections.

Send PM if info still wanted.

Cheers
Rich

Hi Ben,

This is a common chassis and the best Telefunken ever made (for colour).
I am able to help you too with the complete scan version, but It takes a little time,
however it is free.
The yoke is original made by Telefunken, just because of the long "trumpets"
to adjust the colour.
The set is made at the spanish Telefunken plant.
Be happy that not a Telefunken CRT is installed, they are all weak!
Sets with a smaller diameter have often japanese tubes.

Best regards

Thanks for the respsonses!
I'm after the circuit for power module II sub panel for now, it's the one with the thyristor and large TO3 switching transistor on it.

That's looks a very nice set. Telefunken did not have a good name for many of us in the UK. The nicest one I came across, in the mid 1970s, was a Telefunken badged Decca CS2230.

I never liked the 711 chassis line of sets. Never saw one with a decent tube. I did like the large touch buttons though.

@ michamoo

I agree with 200%! I by myself never saw a decent Telefunken
picture tube, not i na 50s, not in a 60s and not in a 70s set.

All my vintage Telefunken TVs have now Philips-Valvo CRTs, The 70s
colour TVs i collected from the streets needed all the help of my "Müter"
or I interchanges the CRT with a Philips tube.

All the TFK sets With 26" tubes got a replacement. I can't remember any of these tubes being good after 10 years. With the 712 sets it was easy to do a swap and the result was terrific. The electronics were good and durable and with a Philips tube (usually from a beat up Philips K11 set) you had a winner combo. The smaller sets had better tubes, but they might have been of other manufacture.

The 711 sets I avoided. They were not so easy to work on and often had a couple of faults combined with a duff tube

Although in the 711 defence it did have very good quality sound at least.
