Radio Rentals Model 224
Hi all
I'm new to the forum. I've recently collected a few valve radios, a couple of which I'm planning to restore. The most recent is this Radio Rentals Model 224. I understand the model is believed to be built on the Baird Model 224 chassis. (Previously thought Model 208 from the radio museum page) Does anyone have any more info, like rarity, ease of restoration etc? Edit:Also, does anyone have a copy of the service sheet? It's not available from the link above. Last edited by Vintesque; 3rd May 2019 at 12:42 pm. Reason: Added service data request |

Re: Radio Rentals Model 224
What is the valve lineup? It is possibly the same chassis as another model. M236?

I've not had the back off yet, but from the Baird Model 224 page on the Radio Museum website, it lists UCH41, UF41, UBC41, UL41 & UY41

Re: Radio Rentals Model 224
It looks suspiciously like an Ekco U245 chassis. I think Ekco did build some sets for RR.

Good call with the U245. The photos of the chassis do look similar. I've downloaded the service sheet so will check when I take the back off.

Re: Radio Rentals Model 224
If it's a U245 be aware of the chassis potential as it could be 'live' depending which way it's wired.

Re: Radio Rentals Model 224
I'd read it had a live chassis. Thanks for the heads up.
So tonight I got it home and had the back off. It's had some work done, with some capacitors replaced. Does it still look Ekco U245 to you? |

Re: Radio Rentals Model 224
According to the Trader sheet the U245 is a valve rectifier job, not selenium, and the wave change switch contacts are chassis topside and there's no rear chassis apron like the one in your photo.
