Astral "the Knightsbridge" wont (won't) ring
Hi
I have a Astral Knightsbridge that has a bell but it wont ring! I know the line is OK because I had one a different colour that did ring. I have turned the switch on and off but still it wont ring. Phone works fine otherwise. Could this just be the phone on this particular line or is it a fault? cheers |

Re: Astal "the knightsbridge" wont (won't) ring
It might be that this phone requires ringing on pin 3, and your socket is wired 2-wire with no ringing circuit on pin 3 of the socket.
As a quick test, if you plug it into a broadband microfilter, this will usually re-create the ringing circuit. |

Re: Astral "the Knightsbridge" wont (won't) ring
Hi,
I'm not certain but some of these phones may have been around pre-1981 when the "modern" plug and socket was introduced. If your phone is/was one of these the conversion to plug and socket may not have been done correctly (if at all) have a look on Bob Freshwaters Site and see if you can find any information there under the section "Special range telephones" Regards Andrew |

Seems to be a very recent design, late eighties at very earliest I'd say, and possibly made/imported by Audioline:
http://www.britishtelephones.com/audiolin/knightsb.htm With the phone disconnected, what reading do you get if you connect a resistance meter across the bell coils? Last edited by Nickthedentist; 28th Apr 2012 at 2:13 pm. |
