OK, will do, just have to wait for the lead to arrive. In the mean time could you clear this up for me,

Do you mean T2 and T3 like in the picture?

Cheers.

Got the lead.

So would it hurt to just try both ways?

That's a relief! I'm not a phone expert, but your diagram was very helpful.

Well done!

Not yet, want to get it working and clean the inside first.

Managed to get the new lead connected to the origional, basicly just got 3 of the wires on the new lead connected to T3, 4 and 5.

Problem is the person ringing the Geco can hear a constand fuzy crackle and the voice is quiet. Does it just need a clean or is this normal?

Almost certainly, the carbon microphone is faulty. This can be replaced with a "modern" (1980s) replacement, which hopefully should make it sound almost as good as a modern phone.

No, search for "21a" transmitters, e.g. eBay item 110385747718

Also can you get the inserts for the dials anywhere, origional or replica? Is this the right one for my phone?

oh and should I be fitting the rectifier and resistor that came with the new lead?

Excuse me, lots to learn.

EDIT

No, best not. Anything "strong" can damage Bakelite so that it will never be shiny again. The same goes for hot water, strong soap, excessive moisture, and so on.

The rectifier is wired in parallel with the wires to the earpiece, to prevent loud clicks.

The resistor is wired in series with the bell so that the Gecophone doesn't steal all the available ringing current, meaning that other phones on the line are more likely to ring properly than if the bell's connected directly.

Neither are important at this stage, leave them for later.

Nick.
