Re: Philips Radio
Several plano models look like this. The easiest way is to look at the type label or if that has fallen off, the other small labels that are often on the chassis (one on the back, sometimes one underneath).

Re: Philips Radio
Thanks guys - very helpful feedback as usual.
Looks like the set in this link: - https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...ereo-543267560 Can't seem to locate any Service Data for this though?

Re: Philips Radio
Obviously the first step in sourcing service information is accurately identifying the model.
On Philips sets the label referred to in post number 5 above can generally be read through a rectangular slot cut in the back panel. |

Re: Philips Radio
Most Planos are covered by a plastic material, not this one.The scale looks exactly as the B7X32A,that's why I suggested it.
The FM/UKW scale says VHF,which is not used in many countries. If you enlarge the picture you can barely read a small sign below the Philips badge to the right. Now does it read 'Made in England' or am I just fooling myself because I want to read that? A question to the op-do you have the radio or plan to aquire it?In any case it will probably be easy to find a circuit diagram, but it requires pictures of the chassis and/or the valve/transistors used. |

Re: Philips Radio
I’ve got the same set as in the first post at home, can’t remember what model it is, I’ll have a look when I get back. I’ve also got the original instruction leaflet with it too. Nice sounding radio, and also works in stereo through the tape and gram inputs.

Re: Philips Radio
Thanks for all the additional input - much appreciated.
The set belongs to a friend who sent me the picture for some initial thoughts? Agreed that the fist step is to get my hands on the set and identify the model - after that things will be much clearer and the next steps will fall into place. I'll update you once I know more details.

Re: Philips Radio
The dial reading VHF could point to any plano model with a /15 suffix. Some models only had one destination, but whenever a model was adapted for different markets, this was mostly indicated by the execution number suffix and not (only) by the model number itself.

Re: Philips Radio
You still don't, since you've now identified someone else's set, not yours It may be the same, but since a lot of planos look alike, it might not actually be that model. Especially if yours says "Made in England" (does it?) since Lloyd's set was made in Belgium (which Philips labeled Holland at the time)...

Re: Philips Radio
X being Netherlands/Holland
G = UK IF = Ireland Belgium can be X or B See https://www.radiomuseum.org/forum/ph...numbering.html The letters can be side by side BX, BG or from 1956 have a digit B5X, B5G. The first digit is price group, thus a 4 is less expensive than a 5. |

Re: Philips Radio
Take care not to overrun the output transformers (g1 coupling capacitor etc) Looks like they're specials according to a schematic I'm looking at.

Plano sets with a model country letter G do exist, and I think IF planos exist as well. Also, Philips Netherlands commercialised export models. So there's plenty to choose from... I fear I'm drifting somewhat off-topic. If the TS still wants to have his set identified with maximum degree of certainty, please have a look at the back or on the chassis. If labels fell off or are unreadable, a matching schematic can be found using the tube complement and chassis layout. Last edited by Maarten; 19th Oct 2018 at 12:01 pm. |

Re: Philips Radio
Some useful info there, I was wondering how you came to the conclusion that my set was made in Belgium, and thought it was something to do with those 2 letters at the start of the serial number. There is a 'Made in Holland' sticker on the front just under the Philips badge.
