Re: EPROM data life?
Hi.
Good question, merlinmaxwell? I suppose in a naive way I see them as being very similar. The PIC18F43 replaces a combination of an old school PIC16C62 with external ST93C06 EEPROM, which has proven to be a reliable with 10+ years use in the field. Obviously the flash holds the code, where the 'power down' configuration settings are written to memory, but I’m wondering if all the memory used in the PIC18F43 is of the same construction with something like only few thousand times of use? I can see a situation arising where domestic equipment fails because of the micro controller 'loosing its marbles' so to speak; leaving perfectly useable circuitry with a good few years of life becoming totally useless because the micro controller, which controls it, has drawn down the curtains, and join the choir invisible! Now where did I put that 'user operated' mechanical switch and pot catalogue Terry. |
