Default Who else is braving the weather for Sambrook?

Well, I will be there - I have a stall, so please come along, and transfer ownership of a whole load of ahem "previously enjoyed equipment"

Anyone else fool enough to brave our summer?

Cheers
Sean

I plan to be there as long as driving conditions are as forecast. It looks like the weather should be a somewhat better than today.

Looking at the photos Paul linked to in another thread I'm thinking it might be as practical for me to 'drive over' as it will be for some in Worcestershire and other areas! Looks pretty bad - of course we've heard nothing of it on local NZ media.

You're right- BBC TV two hours ago said some places got a months rain in 30 minutes. It's not really that well covered in the UK re any comments on distribution/patterns etc but Sambrook itself is ok I hope. Beautiful little
village. Tewksbury got hit today-now that I predicted some time ago.
It does have a huge flood plain but no use in this instance. Should have been going North myself via Sambrook but the cancellation was not weather related. Dave

The flooding has been well covered in the BBC's regional programs, and on Sky News. If you have a Sky Digibox you can get all of the Beebs local news, for any region. This has proved very useful on occasion .

Last year I went to Sambrook and sat on a chair under a tree. Not this year. No I wont be going. I have also run out of space!!!

I would like to go but I am catching up on some sleep after being marooned at a pub at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway and spending the night trying to sleep in an engine room of a diesel electric locomotive (45149 or D 135 for those who are interested).

Never seen anything like it 150 people marooned at the pub in Toddington and 200 more marooned at the pub down the road. The place looks like a war zone with abandoned cars everywhere and debris all over the roads

BBC N24 is streamed, but I'm not sure if it will work from non-UK IP addresses: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/c...&nbwm=1&bbwm=1

Oh well - did not see any rain en-route but when we set off, the heavens opened. When we got to the M6 near the Potteries, it brightened up, and when we arrived home at 2:00, it had been dry and sunny all day.

First time I've been to that event - it was excellent, but there was nothing to tempt me in the auction; I resisted the HRO with more coils than you could shake a stick at, and the Cossor 1039 "gas tap" scope, that used to give me nightmares in the 1960s.

There seemed to be a caseless AR88 in the foyer as well. DAC90As abounded as usual, and there were various Avo sig gennies, including one whose case looked like a CT160 - not seen that one before.

Another face-to-name - met Jon (Duke Nukem) for the first time.

Good to put another face to a name, Mike, but I've now forgotton that other chaps name . Hopefully they'll chime in here. Oh for a better memory.

I left just before the major rain fall ... with just enough time to change the wheel on teh motor wot was punctured. DOH ! I was however tempted to nip back and buy that box full of EY51's.

TTFN,
Jon

Interesting to get first hand information from the pioneers who treked overland today, both about the gear and the weather ie high vacuum's adventures. As Alan suggested this is often an idyllic day out in summer. I'm afraid my post was a bit misleading-of course there is plenty of flood footage on UK TV but I meant that I've not seen much attempting to show or explain the cloudburst/flood patterns on an overall basis.
Perhaps it's considered too difficult for viewers or I'm watching the wrong
channels. News 24 is doing ok otherwise. Anyway I'm glad some people made it and Sambrook has escaped any problems.

I'm pleased the event went ahead as planned. I hope they didn't suffer too badly with reduced visitor numbers.

I think you must mean me Jon, I was stood next to Mike when he introduced himself, I quite enjoy the visit to Sambrook, only a small event compared to the NVCF, but its normally combined with a visit to something else nearby, the RAF museum at Cosford for example. As well as an original Marconiphone service manual for my 1936 556 model, I got a 3A Variac in a homebrew power supply that should be useful.

Visitor numbers were well down - But with the weather conditions, both actual and reported, I guess this is no real suprise!

I managed to shift a fair amount of clobber - does help in making space here - a good number of radios that were clogging the bedroom up have all found better homes!

Nice to see a few familiar faces

Sean
