Default TVM Amplifiers

Hello all. This isn't the perfect forum fo this topic but I'm trying to gather as much information as I can about the TVM Mk30 Audio Amplifier I acquired recently.

They were made in Manchester in the 60's, it has two ECC83's in the pre-amp and an EF86 for good measure, another ECC83 as the phase inverter and two EL34's cathode biased and ultra-linear.

It appears to be a PA amp but it also has a tremolo/vibrato circuit which I find quite strange. I've done no more than a visual inspection so far (the main filter cap was oozing sadly)and cleaned the pots and sockets.

I'm hoping someone knows some history of the company and/or the amps, and maybe has a schematic that I can work from? Any information at all would be great.

Cheers

Not heard of it myself although typically '50s design, the EF86 is probably to give a high gain input for a magnetic mike, cartridge, tape deck even or even guitar pick up.

The fact that this has inbuilt tremulo/vibrato marks this out as being a well specified Guitar Amp as opposed to it being for just PA.

A photo or two might help identification.

Hi,

There is little about TVM amplifiers on the Manchester Beat site. TVM made an amplifier for the Manchester based Barratts music store in in the 1960’s.

Here is a link to the Manchester Beat site and the Barratts and amp pages – the amplifier is at the bottom of the page.... http://www.manchesterbeat.com/shops/...s/barratts.php http://www.manchesterbeat.com/gear/amps.php

I have the circuit somewhere, which I drew out whist restoring the amplifier – it’s a bit of a “back of a fag packet” affair, but it may be useful. From memory the power amplifier is the Mullard 5-20 amplifier.

Regards
Terry
