Default Teac X-10R

Hi Folks, after a belt replacement on this nice machine it was found that it would not go to play, but all other functions seemed to work. I suspect this had been the case before the belt turned to goo.
Faultfinding indicates that the capstan solenoid is not being powered and that there is no signal to it from U32, an AN6251 IC. Am I likely to be able to source one of these or is there a work around

Thanks, Ed

Is a tape loaded? From memory it only functions when both tape arms are tensioned up.

Here is the data sheet. This lists the logic levels for the various inputs and outputs and has useful block diagram/application circuit.

If nothing obvious found then you would have to work going through the transistor circuitry to see what what drives the solenoid and what signal (s) from the 6251 provide the drive signal then check the relevant inputs to the 6251. Far from easy probably.

Can you check that the pinch roller is free to move? The machine can be off in in stop mode.

Hi Gents, thanks for the inputs. Tape is tensioned, mech has been freed off and lubricated, and it looks as if I'm not getting the capstan solenoid drive output from the 6251, although the input from the start switch is there.
Unfortunately my pal does not want to spend any money on it so it may wind up being sold for spares or repair. It would make a good machine for an enthusiast
