Default Bush Radio VTR103 Cabinet Repair.

I bought this Bush VTR103 last week. It looked rough but I only wanted to glean a few spares for my own VTR that I have just restored. I especially wanted the Bush lettering to be in good condition and still chrome, but I was to be disappointed. It was in worse condition than I thought. The lettering was not much better than that on my other set and not worth the effort in changing.

All off the chassis mounting points were broken, and there was a fresh break on the rear panel. Some part of me was already thinking that it may be a challenge. The only thing that was keeping the radio in the cabinet was the tuning dial.

I glued the broken part of the rear panel back on and supported the rear of the break with some chemical metal. I scratched my head about what to do about the broken chassis mounting points. A look in the shed produced four small shelf corner brackets. After a lot of measuring, bending, drilling, hacksawing, fitting and refitting I managed to repair them as seen in pic. I think now though not original, they are certainly stronger.

The cabinet itself was full of marks and scuffs but after spending what seemed like hours cleaning it with soapy water and T-CUT chrome cleaner I managed to clean most of the surface marks off. The radio chassis was brushed gently and vacuumed to get rid of all the fluff and dirt.

This radio differs from my other one in that the colour is a deep cream and the capacitors are dated Sep 62. My first one is much lighter in ivory and the capacitors on that are dated Jan 64, although the difference in colour is hard to tell from the pics.

Colin.
