Default Military Telephone Type 'F' Mk II TMC

Hi everyone, I've been sorting my garage out and have come across 7 Military Telephone Type 'F' Mk: II TMC phones. The reason I have so many is that they were used from 1971 until about 15 years ago by my local motorsport club for relaying times from the flying finish to stop lines on rallies. When the club got a new set we got the old ones and they have been sat in the garage ever since.

I was going to throw away the phones and just use the wooden boxes for storage but it seems a bit of a waste. So does anyone have any info about them regarding value and where to sell them?

I would say that keeping the boxes with the telephones will increase their value (assuming they are the original boxes for the job). Not only can the telephone be packed into the box for storage and transport, but the box forms a protective shell for the telephone when in use, with the handset and cradle exposed and the hinged lid either folded back or used as a cover.

The boxes will be made of teak or oak. I'm no expert, but I would say that if your telephones were in good working order and exhibited only wear-and-tear commensurate with age, they would fetch in the region of £10 - £30 without the box and £15 - £50 with. You may get more by selling as pairs; but don't really know.

Any mods to your telephones, or corrosion, broken parts etc... would see you at the lower end of these figures. I would advertise them on eBay, where I've seen Type 'F's in the region of the prices I quoted. I've also seen sorry-looking examples in 'antique' and curio shops advertised at £60 upwards, but I really don't think you'd get that for them. I've also seen the boxes alone go for around twenty quid.

Maybe someone can suggest a price that you might expect at a telecommunications heritage sale?
