Default GPO/GEC LST2 problem

I have a GEC LST2 that I am restoring, and have a strange problem. When in handset mode it will dial out, when in loudspeaker mode it won't. I don't have a circuit diagram but I am puzzled as to what the difference is likely to be. Any ideas anyone, or even a circuit if I could be so lucky

If you don't already have it, there may be some useful information here, though unfortunately no circuit diagram.

Yes, looked there - the phone is wired as per the instructions
