Fine. I've asked the OP whether there's an output transformer on the PCB in case it's been nicked.

I've taken a better picture of the board .

That's good. I can see two transformers, but no valve!

Check that mains voltage is reaching the primary winding of the larger mains transformer via the two wires from the off/on switch. These wires should be terminated on the same tags of the off/on switch as the cable or wires feeding the deck.

Just an observation....So far as I can make out from the photo's, the bottom left hand tag of the mains transformer is for the heater, the middle is common (ground) and the right hand one is for the HT to the rectifier, the top two tags are the primary.

I remember those rectifiers from my R&TV servicing days as selenium subs, REC50 series? or something else?

Lawrence.

I agree. Let's not forget that the original problem was that the white wire (heater) from the mains transformer went nowhere. If it hasn't been reconnected correctly that might account for the valve not lighting up.

We need some feedback from the OP regarding voltages on the primary and smoothers.

This suggests the original contact-cooled rectifier has been replaced with another device and a series resistor. I must say, the wiring looks very untidy.

And that wax capacitor needs changing as that can drag down the HT or short out the transformer depending on which actual version of the amp is fitted.

Yes I had removed the valve at the time

I'd like to see the player working with the minimum of component changes before the OP embarks on any component replacement or rewiring.

Looks like another record player thread has bitten the dust. I hope the same fate didn't befall the player.

Transformer is definitely shot .posting pictures. The black cables on the transformer are completely broken and very brittle. Almost break up in your fingers

It looked perfectly good back in post #1.

Does the primary winding have continuity? It could be that just the insulation has crumbled leaving the wires intact.

There is continuity on one winding nothing on the other .because the view wasn't very good on post 1 that's why you thought it looked ok .

The transformer has three windings. Which one has no continuity?

It's immaterial, but it would be nice to know.

If you're not sure which winding lacks continuity I can't see how you can be sure that you're actually testing across the correct tags which Lawrence identified back in post #24.

I'll take it from you that the transformer is bust though.

You'd best contact Ed Dinning. He should be able to rewind it for you.

It's not easy to replace these. Most possible replacements may be too big and quite expensive. This will mean re-siting them within the cabinet away from the chassis and, as a result, there will be long stray wiring. Best to get rewound
